I promised a crochet post, so here it is!
I took a Learn to Crochet class at my LYS, Harps and Thistles Yarn Emporium in Cuyahoga Falls with Marissa of LeLe Fox Designs. I’d been wanting to learn how to crochet ever since I fell in love with the dragon mitts on the interwebz somewhere. I love my knitting, but there are definitely some applications that are better suited to another craft.
With Marissa’s help, we made a cute little triangle scarf. I used some gorgeous Malabrigo Arroyo yarn from Harps in Regatta Blue, a gorgeous blend of blues and greens. My pics don’t do it justice – it’s so much richer in person. You can see a couple more pictures and my notes on Ravelry, if you’re interested.
It felt super odd to have a “free” hand, but I got used to it after a while. I had (and still have) trouble counting the number of stitches in a row because each stitch can have several actions associated with it. It’s hard for me even to describe it… When knitting, it feels like there’s a single step for a single stitch but you may have to repeat an action several times to get one stitch in crochet.
Anyway, moral of the story is that I really enjoyed crocheting, but I’m definitely still a beginner. I’m MUCH faster at crochet than knitting, so that’s awesome. I tried to branch out on my own (I did complete a totally ridiculous hat that I’m not posting pics of… lol), but I have a lot of trouble reading the patterns and counting the stitches. I’ve signed up for another class with Marissa and I hope to get a little more experience with pattern reading and head toward becoming an advanced-beginner crocheter.
